The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The ex-president was convicted of plotting a military coup in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the judge said data from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his son.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a senator, called for a gathering of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your nation, or see it all from your phone there on your settee? I urge you to struggle with us."

Context of Sentencing

He was determined responsible of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the presidential race to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
