European football's governing body has initiated a disciplinary case concerning Chelsea winger Pedro Neto after he pushed over a young stadium attendant during a Champions League defeat by PSG.
The Portugal international, Neto, shoved the attendant in the dying moments of the last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – where his team suffered a heavy defeat – an action that led to him to fall off a stool.
This provoked an altercation between players from both teams.
Officials stated action has been taken against the player on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" in accordance with the official rules.
"Disciplinary officials will make a ruling regarding this matter in the coming days," UEFA stated.
The Chelsea player expressed regret over his actions attributing it to getting swept up "in the intensity of the match" while he was attempting to quickly retrieve the match ball.
"I'm not like this. Emotions were running high and I offer my apologies. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I deeply regret it - I owe him an apology," Neto told the media.
"I have limited French, so teammate Vitinha came over and explained to him that it was a momentary lapse.
"Finally he accepted the apology and I presented him with my jersey and said sorry about 35 times. He understood it was a mistake and was content with the situation."
Chelsea host Paris St-Germain next Tuesday for the return fixture, following Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend in domestic competition.
